What ORU Department Head Dr Paul McClendon said Set the Course of my Life
In 1969, as a junior at ORU, I changed my major from mathematics to telecom. Dr. Paul McClendon (Chair of the Telecom Department) welcomed me and the other media pioneer students. It was an exciting time for all of us. But little did he know that when he “prophesied” over three of his students that they truly were to be “Pioneers in Christian Broadcasting” that his words – as the 3 of us walked out his vision by faith – would actually set the course of all 3 of our lives. For myself, God has led me to serve as a Christian TV producer, director, production manager, operations manager, Christian TV station manager, and ministry media director for more than 45 years. God has used me around the world to broadcast live crusades and record programming seen by millions on CBN, CTN, Daystar TV, and TBN.
Don’t get me wrong. I am not a braggart. I am not being prideful. I am thankful for Dr. Mac and for his boldness and faithfulness to speak forth words of life; and I praise God for the great things He has done in and through my life.
The same can be said for the other 2 ORU grads who also have been faithful to the call, who have fulfilled Dr Mac’s prophecy in their own lives – and who must remain nameless for now – except to say that we all graduated ORU in 1971.
It has been a thrilling time on many occasions. And sprinkled in have been times of further training, updating my skills in technology and being used of the Lord as a media and technical consultant as well as times of feeling like I have been put aside on a shelf for a season.
But it through it all, God gets all the glory. And none of this would not have been possible if it were not for ORU – the original vision and DNA of President Oral Roberts being infused into us pioneers of the spirit of excellence and leaving a heritage of faithfulness.
